Welcome to My First Book Club! I’m so excited you’re here — and even more excited to kick off our very first book spotlight.
Each week, I’ll feature a thoughtfully chosen book that’s just right for early readers. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, tutor, or teacher, these book picks are meant to spark joy, confidence, and connection.
This week’s pick:
The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt
(Ages 4–8, great for beginning readers and listeners alike)
Why I chose it:
This playful, colorful story is packed with humor and personality. The crayons tell Duncan how they feel — some say he works them too hard, while others feel left out.
It’s a great conversation starter and perfect for encouraging expressive reading.
Try this at home:
- Ask your child: “Which crayon do you think is the funniest?”
- Activity idea: Have your child write a short letter from their favorite color!
- Bonus: Use real crayons to draw a picture inspired by the book.
Coming soon:

Thank you for being here at the start of something special. I can’t wait to grow this book-loving community together.
Happy reading,
Karen
