My Story
About Me
Hello and welcome! I am so glad you are here! I am a work-at-home mom to my 22-year-old son, a proud Boston College Alum, and my 16-year-old Havanese. I love reading, tennis, teaching, learning new things, and spending time with my family.
I have been an educator for 32 years. I am NYS certified in Elementary Education (Pre-K through Grade 6) and a Reading Specialist. My experience includes being a classroom teacher, literacy coach, staff developer, and founder of a literacy center that I call My First Book Club.
I have an MS in Elementary Education. I have studied the teaching of reading and writing at Teachers College, Columbia University. My passion has always been literacy.
The Birth Of My First Book Club
In 2017, I left the public school system to pursue my passion. My dream was to create a trustworthy and inspiring place for parents to find everything they needed to help their children become proud and confident readers and writers.
In 2018, I was able to make my dream a reality. I opened a literacy center in the Village of Huntington and called it My First Book Club. In March 2020, I was forced to shut down the office due to the pandemic. I began working remotely with my students, and we have been working online ever since. I LOVE IT!
My Core Values
With 32 years of classroom experience, I have worked with readers and writers at various levels. In designing and applying literacy principles, I have witnessed the power of a socially reinforced approach to mastering reading at the elementary school level. I am committed and passionate about providing a wide range of exceptional instruction that inspires a love of reading and writing.
- All students are capable of learning.
- All students should see themselves as part of a literary community.
- All students should be empowered to see themselves as listeners, speakers, readers, writers and thinkers.
